UCS teacher conquers Ironman Triathlon

UCS teacher conquers Ironman Triathlon

What began as a challenge among college friends turning 50 years old has become a passion and source of motivation for Duncan Elementary music teacher, Wendy Webster-Fischer.

Competing in her first triathlon in 2018, she has worked her way to successfully complete a 70.3 mile Ironman Triathlon each year since, including this summer. Ironman Triathlons include three legs to the race: 1.2-mile swim in open water, followed by 56-mile bike and finally, a 13.1-mile run.

“This year, my goal was to cross the finish line with a smile under 7 hours and I did it in 6 hours and 52 minutes,” Webster-Fischer said.

“It’s not just doing the race or crossing the finish line that’s important, the journey throughout the training to reach a goal is what makes me sign up for races.”

Wanting to set an example for her own children and students, Webster-Fischer trained the past year for the 2022 Ironman Triathlon.

“I truly believe that you can achieve if you believe in yourself and invest the time to practice and train,” Webster-Fischer said. “Anything is possible!”
