Hard work adds up with back-to-back perfect M-STEP math results
Isabella Bronzovich’s strategy for success in math is to always work hard and try to stay one year ahead in her studies.
The strategy has clearly paid off for the Bemis Junior High School seventh grader, who has been recognized for having perfect math scores in her past two Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) tests.
“I personally think that math is one of the most important subjects to learn and I want to make sure I’m good at it,” she said. “I just study for all my tests and make sure I remember all that I learned. I don’t give up on any of the questions, even if I am having a hard time with it.”
Never giving up has led to Bronzovich being among a handful of students earning a perfect 1650 on the math portion of her past two M-STEP results.
M-STEP is a computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering State of Michigan standards.
“I was proud of the results because I really worked hard,” Isabella said.
She said another key to success has been her UCS teachers, particularly Browning Elementary sixth grade teacher Margaret Johnston.
Johnston called Isabella a strong student who has always given 100 percent to her work.
“Isabella is such a wonderful student. I am so proud of what she has accomplished,” she said. “I can't wait to see what she achieves in her amazing future.”
Bronzovich’s future includes pursuing a career in teaching, as she loves learning and her mother – Elaine Bronzovich – is a teacher at Morgan Elementary.
Isabella said she knows math is important to her chosen career.
“I think Math and English are most useful skills,” she said. “You use math for a lot of things. My dad does design work and he has to measure everything to make sure it fits.”
