Everence Student-Athlete of the Week: Matias da Fonseca, Men's Soccer

Matias da Fonseca, a fifth-year on the men's soccer team, has been named the Everence Student-Athlete of the Week for October 3 - October 10!

Da Fonseca recorded 17 saves against #11 Bethel on Saturday and posted a .944 save percentage. He is second in the Crossroads League this season with 59 total saves. Bethel won the game 1-0 and improved to 11-1-1 this season and 4-0 in the Crossroads League. The game on Saturday was the first time the Pilots have been held to just one goal since a 2-1 loss at #3 Central Methodist on September 1.

Da Fonseca has seen his save percentage go up since conference play. He has stopped 77.1% of the shots on goal that have come his way in Crossroads League action, which is the third-best in the conference.

The Maple Leafs are 1-2-1 in conference play so far this season. Goshen is at Grace on Wednesday, October 12, at 7:00 pm.

Way to go, Matias!

The Everence Student-Athlete of the Week award recognizes outstanding performances by Goshen College student-athletes and is selected each week by the GC sports information office. It is sponsored by Everence, a faith-based financial services organization headquartered in Goshen.
