Men's basketball takes on two MAC teams in exhibition games

The men's basketball team got great experience in some large basketball arenas as they had exhibition games at Western Michigan and Miami (OH) this week - two teams in the Division-I Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Broncos won 99-62 on Thursday and the Redhawks won on Saturday, 87-44.

As exhibition games, neither one counts as a result on the Goshen schedule. The win on Thursday was the first in the career of first-year Western Michigan head coach Dwayne Stephens. He had been a longtime assistant coach and associate head coach in the Michigan State program from 2003-2022. Goshen kept it close in the first ten minutes until WMU began to settle in. Elias Ramirez led both teams with 17 points. He made five threes - three more than any other player on the court - and had three rebounds and a steal. Greg Johnson II had 12 points and six rebounds. The Broncos had six players score in double figures.

Miami's first-year head coach also picked up his first win with the program against Goshen. He joined the Redhawks after spending the last four years as the head coach at Xavier. Miami led the whole way, starting with a 9-0 lead. Later, an 8-0 run for GC tied the game at 21 apiece. The Goshen defense held the Redhawks to just 26 first-half points, but they erupted for 61 in the second-half. Goshen had 27 turnovers and Miami forced 18 steals.

Clayton MacLagan was the leading point-scorer for the Leafs. He had 16 points on 6-11 shooting and was 4-7 from behind the arc. Elias Ramirez and Isaac Miller had six points each and Kedrick Bibby had seven rebounds.
