UCS Employee Group Raises Funds for Oxford Legacy Students to Travel to Uvalde, TX

UCS Employee Group Raises Funds for Oxford Legacy Students to Travel to Uvalde, TX

After seeing the tragedy they experienced reoccur in Uvalde, TX, IB Diploma seniors at Oxford High School in Oxford, MI created the Oxford Legacy foundation. Their mission is to help the Robb Elementary students in Uvalde, TX by gathering donations and traveling there to deliver the donations to the families.

When UCS school psychologist, Susan Brunell, learned of the fundraiser she was passionate about helping and having other UCS itinerant employees help, too.

In one weekend school psychologists, school social workers and speech-language pathologists from across Utica Community Schools raised over $450 to donate to the Oxford Legacy which has now surpassed their goal of raising $15,000.

“We felt moved to donate to this cause because seeing young people rally and join together to turn tragedy into positive outcome is impressive,” Brunell said. “We wanted to support the students in this work, along with supporting our fellow educators.”

The school psychologists, school social workers and speech-language pathologists who donated to the Oxford Legacy service all of Utica Community Schools and, like everyone else, were devastated by the tragedies that occurred in Oxford, MI and Uvalde, TX.

“The work the Oxford Legacy students are doing is impactful for both the Uvalde, TX community, and for their own healing,” Brunell said.

Donations are still being accepted by the Oxford Legacy. To find out more, click here.
