Ramirez scores season-high, USF powers through in second half
Elias Ramirez scored a season-high and hit four three-pointers, but a dominant second half lifted Saint Francis over Goshen on Wednesday night, 100-77.
Kaden Johnson scored six of the Maple Leafs' first 11 points, and Goshen built a five-point lead at 19-14. The teams would trade points for a while, but the Cougars went up by seven with just under three minutes to go in the first half. Goshen came back to tie it with 23 seconds to go before Saint Francis ended the half with a three-point lead.
Goshen was never that close for the rest of the game, as USF went on a 12-0 run after the teams had been tied at 44. They hit the 100-point mark with 43 seconds remaining in the game. The Cougars had three twenty-point scorers – Zane Burke, Branden Northern, and Dan McKeeman.
Ramirez scored 21 for the Maple Leafs on 7-13 shooting and going 4-9 behind the arc. Greg Johnson II had 15 points and four assists, and Kaden Johnson finished with 13 points but had his fourth foul with 12:30 to go in the second half. He brought down seven rebounds. Caleb Wright and Clayton MacLagan each scored 12.
Saint Francis was ranked fifth in the NAIA with just 9.0 turnovers per game, and tonight they had eight. They won the rebounding margin 35-23 and moved to 7-4 this season.
Goshen is at Spring Arbor on Saturday, December 3, at 3:00 pm. They are back at home on December 10.
