Everence Student-Athlete of the Week: Summer Cooper, Women's Track & Field
Summer Cooper, a junior on the women's track & field team, has been named the Everence Student-Athlete of the Week for December 5 - December 12!
Cooper qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the mile on Saturday at the Strive for Greatness Invitational held at Indiana Tech. She finished first of 12, coming in at a time of 5:08.25. By doing so, she hit the NAIA B Standard and will be competing in her second event at nationals after hitting the A Standard in the 3,000 meters last weekend.
Currently, with the fifth-best NAIA time in the mile this season, Cooper is one of just seven athletes who have qualified for nationals in the event. Four of those seven athletes are from the Crossroads League - with two runners from Grace and one from Huntington in the mix. Cooper also holds the eighth-best time in the 3,000 meters in the NAIA this year.
Way to go, Summer!
The Everence Student-Athlete of the Week award recognizes outstanding performances by Goshen College student-athletes and is selected each week by the GC sports information office. It is sponsored by Everence, a faith-based financial services organization headquartered in Goshen.
