Pilots start second half strong, take down Maple Leafs 83-65

The Goshen and Bethel men's basketball teams were in fierce competition in the first half of Saturday's rivalry game in Goshen, but things changed to start the second half when the Pilots went on an 18-0 run and won the game 83-65.

Goshen had the lead at 21-20 when Bethel started gaining some steam. Yet the Pilots only led by three at the break. After scoring the first ten points of the second half, the Maple Leafs called a timeout. Six minutes and 17 seconds into the second half, the Leafs first got on the board as Judah Simfukwe ended the drought with a basket. Goshen outscored Bethel the rest of the way 35-32, but the damage had already been done. BU won the game by the same amount of points they had on their scoring run - 18.

A trio of scorers led GC. Kaden Johnson scored 15 points with seven rebounds, Judah Simfukwe had 14 points and six rebounds, and Isaac Miller added 13 points with five rebounds and three steals. Elias Ramirez, who averaged 15.2 points per game this season, was held to a season-low two points.

Bethel shot 16-17 at the free-throw line. Drew Lutz was 6-6 on those shots and finished with 22 points. Chikara Tanaka, Tanguy Touze, and Brandon Hunt scored 10+ points for the Pilots.
