Rodammer and Smith lead Goshen offense, but Thomas More rallies from six down to defeat Leafs

After Goshen built up a 7-1 lead, the Thomas More Saints rallied in the sixth and seventh innings to come back and win 11-7 at Thomas More Stadium. Jenner Rodammer went 4-5 with two doubles for the Leafs.

The Saints scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but Goshen responded with seven straight. It started in the second when Collin Echols walked with the bases loaded. Char Reeves scored on an error, and then Preston Anderson hit a two-RBI double to center field that scored Chris Godden and Andres Garcia.

In the third, Trent Sillett hit an RBI single to right center that scored Reeves, and a sacrifice bunt from Echols brought Garcia home. Morgan Baker's sac fly in the fourth inning scored Jenner Rodammer, and the Leafs now held a 7-1 advantage.

The lead held steady until the bottom of the sixth when the Saints exploded with six runs to tie the game. Jacob Caruso hit a three-run home run that made it 7-4. Thomas More scored three more runs in the inning, taking advantage of two Maple Leafs errors while providing four hits. They took the lead back in the seventh inning when Ben Duncan shot a triple down the left field line that scored two runs, and he scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 10-7. The Saint scored once more in the bottom of the eighth.

Goshen had a great start to the top of the ninth. Jenner Rodammer and Joseph Cerda hit singles, and Morgan Baker walked to load the bases. Then, Peyton Smith grounded into a controversial double play. Due to an aggressive Goshen slide at second, the run didn't score, and Rodammer had to go back to third base. Andres Garcia flew out to right field in the next at-bat, and the Saints won 11-7.

Rodammer was 4-5 with two doubles and a run scored. Peyton Smith had two singles and a double, and Preston Anderson hit a single and a double with two RBIs to his name. Char Reeves and Andres Garcia each scored twice. Peyton Smith had the start for GC on the mound and allowed one earned run in three innings pitched. The Leafs had five different relief pitchers in the game. Goshen struck out 12 times, while the Saints did so on three occasions.
