Everence Student-Athlete of the Week: Nelson Kemboi, Men's Track & FIeld
Nelson Kemboi, a junior on the men's indoor track and field team, has been named the Everence Student-Athlete of the Week for February 27 - March 6!
In the 3,000-meter prelims on Friday, Kemboi placed third of ten in heat one with a time of 8:38.88. He was just 1.31 seconds away from the winner of the heat. Among the 27 total finishers, Kemboi placed ninth and advanced to the finals, where 12 participants competed the next day.
On Saturday, he finished with a time of 8:26.43 and placed sixth out of 12, making him an All-American for the performance as he earned three points to Goshen's team score. The time is also a school record, beating the mark of 8:30.40 set by Ryan Smith in 2017. Kemboi's time in the finals was his best this season by nearly nine seconds. He is now a four-time All-American.
Way to go, Nelson!
